NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF VETERAN CYCLE CLUBS
Entrants in the Annual National Rally, held every year since 1957 in various areas of the UK on the First Sunday in September, ride machines dating from 1860’s to 1935, the period of which incorporates the Velocipede (Boneshaker) of the 1860’s followed by the 1870 Ordinary Bicycle (Penny Farthing) through the development of the bicycle up to 1935, almost a complete cycle history. Members also endeavor to ride their machines in correct period costume appropriate to the cycle they ride.
2017 RALLY will be held between 1st & 3rd September
in the Marshlands, South of the River Ouse, West of Goole.
Rally activities will be based at:
The Half Moon Inn, Reedness NGR SE 797232 and Whitgift Church, Whitgift NGR SE 808227
Bygone Bykes (Yorkshire) Club are pleased to invite you to a Southerly part of the East Riding of Yorkshire. The string of villages which hug the Ouse have become familiar to our club as we have held our annual rally at Ousefleet for a number of years. The residents of the villages have made us very welcome. Leaving Goole you will pass through Swinefleet, Reedness, Whitgift, Ousefleet and Adlingfleet. In years past, shipping activities brought considerable wealth to the area but the villages are now bypassed by quite large vessels as they leave the Humber to berth at Goole and you may find yourself looking up at ship masts as you cycle close to the waterway.
There are sufficient camping facilities behind the Half Moon in Reedness which has bathrooms without showers and limited electric hook-ups, which will be allocated on a first come basis. It may be possible to have B&B accommodation but this will be arranged on an informal basis. We intend to offer a carvery meal at the Half Moon on Saturday night (with vegetarian option) and a packed lunch and afternoon tea at the Church on Sunday. (The ladies of the Church are first class cooks!). We will ride to the Waterways Museum in Goole on Sunday.
We hope you will want to join us in this BBYC’s 50th year of the existence. Entry forms will be available from the NAVCC website. Should you have any questions at this stage please direct them to Tony & Elsie Huntington on 01430 827479 or Edna & John Slinger on 01706 841976
